Conservation Tips

There are simple ways to start making a difference in your home and your environment.  Follow these quick and easy steps for some real energy savings through Toronto and Ontario style winter and summer temperatures.

Easy Tips & Tricks

  • Convert all incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs.  Replacing just one regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb will save 150 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.  Additionally, LED bulbs are an additional option with even more efficiency than CFL’s.
  • By choosing ENERGY STAR rated appliances, you can expect to save 30% to 40% on your energy bills.
  • Ceiling fans use far less energy than the air conditioner and can drop room temperatures by 1 degree or more.  Also in the winter a ceiling fan helps mix the warm air that has rise to the ceiling.
  • A five minute shower uses half the water of a bath.
  • Plug computers and home electronics into power bars and turn the power bars off when not in use to avoid drawing additional energy know as “phantom load”.
  • Maximize passive solar power by opening and closing the blinds in order to heat and cool your home.
  • In the kitchen, use pressure cookers, microwaves and toaster ovens instead of the conventional oven as they use much less power.
  • Wrap your hot water tank with an insulating blanket to prevent heat loss, or consider a tankless model that only heats water when you need it.
  • Install a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust temperatures at night or when you’re not home.
  • Position the fridge out of direct sunlight to prevent energy waste.

Toronto and the Greater Toronto area has a very unique climate.  We can easily have winter temperatures plunge to -30 Celsius necessitating  our homes have adequate heating or furnace systems.  Alternatively our summer temperatures can shoot up well over +30 Celsius, requiring the use of air conditioners to keep Toronto homes cool.   GTA furnace is a full service HVAC company.  We can help ensure that your home maintains a comfortable temperature all year long, reliably.
